Emporia Rescue Mission is nearing its fundraising goal.
Emporia Rescue Mission & Abundant Harvest Community Food Kitchen’s Alan Feinstein Foundation Challenge ends April 30. Director of the Rescue Mission Lee Alderman says they need a little more help to reach the $60,000 goal.
Alderman says the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation of Cranston, Rhode Island will match dollar-for-dollar and will also match nonperishable food items at the rate of $1 an item. A local donor match up to $25,000.
The Community Kitchen, located at 1028 Whittier, serves free boxed meals from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through as well as a free hot meal at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Alderman says they serve on average 30 people per meal per day, with everyone from young families to older adults. When they are open, Alderman says they also give away a free bag of clothes every 3 minutes.
With only a handful of part-time employees, the organization is supported by 170 volunteers, so Alderman says the fundraiser ensures money donated goes directly to serving people in need.
If you would like to donate, send funds to PO Box 901. You can also find out more about the Rescue Mission by calling 620-342-7439.
