The Emporia State baseball team completed a sweep of first place Central Oklahoma with a doubleheader sweep Monday.
In game 1 the Hornets rallied for a 14-6 win. Central scored 2 runs in both the 6th and 7th innings to take a 6-3 lead. Emporia State rallied with 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th and scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Bryce Fischer was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI. Mason Brown was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. Kaden Shaffer drove in 2 runs. Trey Taylor was the winning pitcher, picking up his first win of the season. Nathan Gieber earned his 2nd save.
Emporia State won game 2 5-3. Bryce Fischer hit a 2 run home run to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
Emporia State added a run in the 2nd inning and scored single runs in the 4th and 6th inning. Brian Grove was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Kyle Lopez and Brandon Bacher each drove in a run. Taylor Thompson was the winning pitcher in the 2nd game. Picking up his 3rd win of the season. Nathan Gieber earned his 3rd save. Coach Bob Fornelli called it a good series.
The Hornets are now 22-16 for the season and 13-12 in the MIAA and tied for 6th place in the MIAA standings with Missouri Western. Emporia State plays at Missouri Western Tuesday.
