8 runs in the first inning propelled the Emporia State baseball team to a 17-7 win in 8 innings over Central Oklahoma Sunday.
Brandon Bachar hit a 3 run home run in the first inning.
The Hornets added a run in the 5th, 3 runs in the 6th and 7th innings and ended the game with 2 runs in the 8th. Kaden Shaffer drove in the game ending run and finished the day going 4 for 5 with 3 RBI.
Seth Holman was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts. Coach Bob Fornelli said they played the right way.
The Hornets and Bronchos play a doubleheader Monday. Game 1 begins at 12 noon.
