Saturday’s weather was hardly ideal for outdoor activities. Still, a contingent of runners braved the elements and participated in the Crawl Walk Run 5K for Emporia Child Care.
Director Deb Crowl was grateful for the turnout. To her, that was a signal of longstanding community support.
About 100 pre-registered for the event despite the forecast calling for high temperatures near 40 degrees with gusty northwest winds.
New this year was a short walk for kids called the Croakey Pokey, where parts of the children’s book were read at several stations around C of E Pond. The Kansas Masonic Literacy Center donated 50 books for that new activity.
Fundraising totals are pending. Crowl says proceeds will help finish renovations on the second floor of the facility at 1320 C of E Drive so preschoolers can move from the current building at 802 Commercial. Emporia Child Care has been raising money towards that end. To donate or get information, call 343-2888 or go online to www.emporiachildcare.org.
