The Emporia State softball team swept a doubleheader from Southwest Baptist Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets won the 1st game 5-4. Southwest Baptist scored a run in the first inning. Emporia State would tie the game in the 2nd inning. SBU scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 4-1 lead. Emporia State answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The game remained tied until Annie Rockley doubled in the winning run in the 7th inning with 2 out.
Emporia State won the 2nd game 3-2. Both teams scored 2 runs in the 4th inning. Kenzie Garvin scored the winning run on a single by RAchel Kauss with 2 outs in the 6th inning. Coach April Rosales said they took a different mental approach into the games.
Montana Mesler was the winning pitcher of the 2nd game giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. She worked out of bases loaded jam in the 5th inning without giving up a run.
The Lady Hornets will host Central Missouri Friday afternoon, first pitch has been moved to 2pm.
