The Emporia State softball team split a doubleheader with Missouri Southern Saturday.
The Lady Hornets won the first game 12-4. Hailey Cope drove in 2 runs, part of a 5 run first inning. McKenzie Garvin drove in 2 runs with a single in the 7th. Destiny Ojigoh drove in 2 runs with a double and bunt single. Montana Mesler was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Missouri Southern won the 2nd game 6-2. The Lady Hornets scored first on a Danielle Sprinkle single in the 4th. Southern scored 4 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 6th. Emporia State tried to rally in the 7th scoring a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Hornets are now 9-14 for the season and 2-4 in MIAA play. They are scheduled to play in the Missouri Western hosted Hyvee Classic beginning Friday.
