The Olpe Lady Eagles came up short against the Valley Heights Mustangs 63-59 in overtime of the 2A girls state semi-finals Friday.
Olpe would grab a quick lead early in the first quarter before Valley Heights would overtake the Lady Eagles and lead by one 15-14. Valley Heights would lead at the end of every quarter before Olpe would close a five point lead in the last minute of the fourth to force overtime. Both teams would trade the lead in OT before a successful trip to the free throw line in the last ten seconds would seal the victory for the Mustangs.
Olpe was led in scoring by junior Emma Miller with 22 points and senior Briana Vogts with 18.
Olpe Girls Head Coach Jesse Nelson believes the game was decided at the free throw line.
With the loss Olpe will play Hill City, for third place, at noon Saturday in Manhattan.
Junior Karly McDougald left the game in the final minute of the fourth quarter with a back injury. Her availability, for Saturday, is unknown.
At the 1A Division II tournament in Dodge City the Hartford girls defeated Axtell 53-40. They will play Quinter in the Championship game.
At the 4A Division II tournament it will be Baldwin vs Andale in the girls Championship game.
Baldwin defeated Hugoton 60-47. Andale out scored Marysville 48-38 in the semi-finals
In the boys Championship game it will be Holcomb vs Topeka Hayden.
Holcomb, the defending 4A Champion, out scored Parsons 66-62 and Hayden defeated Andale 55-45. in the semi-finals.
