Wichita Heights out scored the Emporia High Boys basketball team 44-36 in a 5A Sub-State Championship game Friday night.
It was a back and forth game with Emporia High leading 6-5 after the 1st quarter. Heights led 16-15 at halftime and 27-25 going to the 4th quarter. Emporia High tied the game at 31 but could never retake the lead. Coach Beau Welch was pleased with the effort.
Heights out scored Emporia High 12 to 6 from the freethrow line as Heights made 11 of 12 freethrows in the 2nd half. Emporia High was led in scoring by Brent Hastert and Dylan Farr wit 10 points each. The Spartans finish their season 13-9.
