Northwest Missouri State swept a doubleheader from the Emporia State baseball team Sunday.
Northwest won the first game 3-2 in 14 innings. Northwest scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead. Emporia State scored a run in the 5th inning, Take Kastens scoring on a Mack Gowing single. Kade Schaffer tied the game with a solo homerun in the 6th inning. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 14th inning.
Northwest won the 2nd game 7-6. The Hornets took an early 3-0 lead on Taylor Sanagorskis 3 run homerun in the first inning. Mason Brown added solo homeruns in the 3rd and 5th innings to take a 6-2 lead. Northwest scored 3 runs in the 5th and added 2 more in the 7th inning.
Emporia State Coach Bob Fornelli said they just did not play well enough to win.
Emporia State and Northwest wrap up their 3 game series Monday afternoon with a single game. First pitch is set for 1pm.
