The Emporia High boys won on a last second shot 47-45 over Washburn Rural. In the girls game Rural jumped out to a big 1st quarter lead on the way to a 59-28 win over the Lady Spartans.
In the boys game Jay Wilson hit a last second shot to give the Spartans the 47-45 win. The game was tied at 7 after the first quarter. Emporia High led 18-16 at halftime and led 36-30 going to the 4th quarter. Coach Beau Welch called it a grind it out win.
Dylan Farr was the leading scorer with 13 points. Ja’Len Carter added 10 points for the Spartans who improve to 12-5 for the season and 6-4 in Centennial League play.
In the girls game Washburn Rural out scored Emporia High 19-4 in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to the 59-28 win. Coach Carolyn Dorsey said Rural was better.
Taylor Milleson was the leading scorer for Emporia High with 12 points. The Lady Spartans are now 8-9 for the season and 3-7 in the Centennial League.
