KVOE Sports Director Greg Rahe has been honored for his contributions to sports broadcasting and the community.
The Kansas Association of Broadcasters has honored Rahe with the Hod Humiston Award for his significant contributions to the field. KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas nominated Rahe and says the honor is well-deserved.
KAB President Kent Cornish agrees.
Rahe calls the award “humbling,” especially to be included with some of the great names in Kansas sports broadcasting.
Rahe came to Emporia in 1987 after graduating from Fort Hays State. Originally the voice of Emporia High sports, he became the voice of Emporia State football and basketball in 1988 and has handled those duties since then. He has won numerous awards from the KAB for play-by-play, sportscasts and sports features:
Kansas Medium Market Best Play-by-Play: 1996, 2002, 2011
Kansas Medium Market Best Sportscast: 1990, 2007, 2013
Kansas Medium Market Best Sports Feature: 1992, 1998, 2004
Besides delivering numerous sportscasts a week, Rahe hosts the Area Coaches Corner and Saturday Morning Sports Talk.
Rahe has also been active at Messiah Lutheran Church and the Boy Scouts.
Humiston was a founder and co-owner of KSKU Radio and also worked for KWBW and KWHK in Hutchinson. He was also the first TV sportscaster in Kansas, doing college play-play-play for KTVH, which is now KWCH in Wichita. He was also instrumental in bringing the national junior college basketball tournament to Hutchinson, where it has been played since 1949.
