Emporia city commissioners have a lengthy agenda for this week’s meeting.
Commissioners are slated to consider bids for the material recovery facility, as part of continuing to get the citywide recycling program online by summer. Commissioners also have three zoning requests to consider: three from the Emporia Country Club to change the zoning status of a minor plat in order to possibly sell or develop the land, and one from the city to modify language in the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission zoning regulations. During their last meeting, the Planning Commission denied the requests from the Country Club, citing no “golden factors” or precedents set, as well as no concrete plans for the land in question at 18th and Morningside.
Commissioners will also consider a request from Emporia Main Street Development Group LLC, for a conditional use permit to continue work at 1018 and 1024 Commercial to build residential living space on the ground floor of the Chelsea Lofts project. The Planning Commission did approve this request.
Municipal court costs, board appointments, and a presentation of animal oxygen masks to the Emporia Fire Department are also on the agenda. The meeting starts at 7pm Wednesday in the Municipal Court Room.
