The Emporia Arts Center Board of Directors has named one-time USD 253 After-School Quest director Dawn Young as the Arts Center’s new executive director.
Young served as the Quest director for 15 years and tells KVOE News she believes in the arts and Arts Center’s mission.

Young was among 12 candidates that applied for the job after longtime director Melissa Windsor moved to Arizona earlier this summer. She says her plans for adapting the Arts Center’s direction on programming and performances will develop over time — and after she has a chance to meet with people across the community.
Board president-elect Bo Swanson says the selection committee and board were both pleased with Young’s prior work skill sets and “sense of adventure.” Current board president Teresa Maley agrees.

Young starts her new position Monday and will be responsible for final planning as the Cantus concert is held Nov. 1 at Albert Taylor Hall. She starts as the Arts Center celebrates its 40th year of offering arts programs and performances — and also as the Arts Center building marks five years of operations in January.
