They were called names like “Turbo,” “Chubby” and “Wormy.” And over 70 slimed their way across a pair of tables at the Emporia Public Library for the annual worm races Friday.

In the end, Sam Hauff’s worm, “Wormy,” took top honors.
The turnout was similar to last year but significantly higher than two years ago, when nearly 30 worms participated.
