Traffic has returned to normal on Kansas Highway 99 north of Emporia now that a bridge over the Kansas Turnpike has been repaired.
The bridge just north of Road 220 needed one-lane travel for over two months after an oversized load hit the bottom of the span in late February, tearing the bottom of a flange and forcing the Kansas Department of Transportation to both heat-straighten and splice part of the understructure.
Work started Monday and wrapped up two days ahead of schedule. The estimated repair cost was around $100,000.
Kansas Turnpike travel will remain down to one lane through perhaps Thursday so final work can be completed.
