New coronavirus cases and active cases have been holding steady for the past month, but Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says community transmission risk has elevated.
Millbern says this reflects an increase in Lyon County’s test positivity rate from around one percent to over four percent, as well as an increase in both new infections and hospitalizations over the past four to five weeks.
Lyon County has not seen a double-digit increase in new cases since the March 31 report. Active cases have been below 30 since April 1.
Lyon County continued its vaccination clinics with a traditional revaccination clinic Thursday and the first three on-site clinics Thursday and Friday. Lyon County Public Health Incident Commander Renee Hively says nearly 200 people received their Moderna booster shots. Another 126 students, staff and student family members got primary dose Pfizer shots at a clinic Friday morning, with seven at Northern Heights on Friday and 18 at Olpe on Thursday. The school clinic totals accounted for nearly half the doses Lyon County had on hand for the pop-up clinics. Lyon County also has several hundred Moderna vaccines available.
Starting Monday, Flint Hills Community Health Center patients can get vaccinated if they have an appointment already scheduled. They can also schedule an appointment just for a COVID-19 vaccine or they can walk in to the Health Center, 420 West 15th.
