Emporia High biology teacher Erica Huggard is among a handful of teachers named as state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Huggard is an ESU graduate, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education in 2006 before starting her teaching career the following year. She also received a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in English as a second language from Kansas State in 2009.
Huggard has earned several honors for her work in the classroom, including being named a Kansas Master Teacher for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The Presidential Awards recognize teachers who demonstrate a high level of leadership, knowledge, innovation and skill. State finalists will be recognized next February. National finalists receive a $10,000 award.
