The Emporia State baseball team swept Pittsburg State in a doubleheader Friday and earned a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
The Hornets Held on to win the firsts game 11-10. They scored 4 runs in the 1st inning would hold on for the win.
Cooper Minnick was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Brady Michel drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs. Sam Chaput and Christian Roduner each drove in 2 runs.
Jake Barton was the winning pitcher, going 5.1 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Colton Crisp pitched the 9th to earn the save.
In the 2nd game Emporia State out scored the Gorillas 11-4. The Hornets scored a single run in the first, two runs in the 2nd on a Blake Carroll home run. Brigham Mooney hit a 3 run home run as part of a 4 runs 3rd inning. Emporia State added 3 more runs in the 5th to build a 10-0 lead.
Pittsburg State scored single runs in the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th innings.
Jared Kengott was the winning pitcher going 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with 10 strikeouts.
Emporia State and Pittsburg State wrap up their 3 game series Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets have locked up the 8th seed for the MIAA Tournament and will play at Central Missouri in a best of 3 series beginning next Friday.
