Lyon County’s disaster declaration will now continue through next month.
Lyon County Commissioners approved a 28-day extension of the declaration through Jun. 3 during their weekly action session Thursday morning. Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell says the declaration remains a vital tool to the county with 104 Kansas counties keeping their declarations in place and the competition for COVID-19 resources still ongoing.
Fell says among the resources made available by the declaration is the county’s ability to utilize assistance from the Kansas National Guard during vaccination clinics. Fell says this will be a vital resource as he anticipates a surge in COVID-19 vaccination appointments with younger residents now becoming eligible to receive doses.
In other business, commissioners approved the county’s annual service contract with Silverson Security and received annual reports from Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods and Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness Director Amanda Cunningham.
County Commissioners will reconvene for a work-study session Wednesday morning. Commissioners will hold their weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
