The Emporia State baseball team outscored Fort Hays State 4-1 to win the first game of a 3 game series Friday night.
The Hornets scored single runs in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 8th innings.
Brady Michel drove in 2 of the runs with a single and sacrifice fly.
Jake Barton was the winning pitcher going 5.2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Jarrett Seaton pitched the final 3.1 innings without giving up a hit and striking out 3 with 1 walk.
The Hornets and Tigers will play a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Game 1 is set to begin at noon. The first game will be broadcast on MIX 104.9.
