Officials at Lyon County Public Health are pleased they can get COVID-19 vaccines to high school students soon.
Plans are finalizing for clinics May 7 at Emporia High and USD 251 North Lyon County. On KVOE’s Morning Show on Thursday, Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says this is a big deal for several reasons.
A clinic is currently pending for USD 252 Southern Lyon County, and plans have not been announced yet for clinics involving Emporia Christian School or Sacred Heart Elementary. These clinics will involve both the single-dose Johnson & Johnson variety and the two-dose Pfizer vaccine.
Meanwhile, Lyon County is shifting gears for its general vaccination clinic this week. Normally, the primary dose and revaccination clinics would be held on separate days, but Public Health is having a combination clinic Friday morning at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Millbern says it’s a good use of staff time, and it comes as Public Health is moving away from large-scale vaccination events — but the final plan for pop-up clinics is still in the works.
People wanting primary doses Friday can go online to www.publichealth.lyoncounty.org to schedule their appointment.
Millbern rejoins KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am May 6 with another update on Lyon County’s COVID-19 response.
