The time for a wind advisory affecting much of the KVOE listening area has been extended.
Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are now in an advisory until 8 pm, matching an advisory also in place for Chase and Greenwood counties. The previous end time was 4 pm.
Wind gusts have been at or above 40 mph since shortly before 8 am. They could continue at that level into the mid-evening hours. Blustery conditions are also expected overnight and through most of Tuesday.
6 am Monday: Blustery start to the work week — wind advisories posted areawide Monday
A warm, windy start to the work week is ahead for the KVOE listening area.
Wind advisories are up for Lyon and all surrounding counties Monday with southerly winds expected as high as 50 mph. Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in an advisory from 9 am to 4 pm, while Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory from 9 am to 8 pm.
No alerts are currently posted for Tuesday, but winds could be as high as 30 mph during the afternoon.
High temperatures will be in the mid-80s both Monday and Tuesday — a far cry from the freezing temperatures and light snowfall almost a week ago — before possible rainfall Tuesday night into Thursday. Humidity levels will be increasing between now and Tuesday night, but outdoor burning will be strongly discouraged due to the warmth and wind speeds until the rain chances arrive.
