Beginning Saturday, local residents in search of a furry new friend can go visit the pets available at the Emporia Animal Shelter any day of the week.
Humane Society of the Flint Hills Director Stephanie Achille, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, announced Friday that beginning Saturday the Animal Shelter will have extended walk-in hours. The new hours will mean no appointments are needed from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday through Wednesday.
Achille says this comes at a time where the population at the shelter is plentiful.
The new hours will give more access to the community than even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Achille says that prior to COVID-19 the shelter was only open to the public roughly 20 hours a week.
The new hours have extended that to total by an additional 15.
Appointments will still be required to enter the shelter on Thursday and Friday. Mask use and social distancing will still be in effect for all visitors to the shelter.
