Two area school districts are benefiting from a federal program to cut down on air pollution.
USD 253 Emporia is getting $40,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency to replace two old diesel buses. USD 284 Chase County is getting $20,000 to replace a bus.
Eight districts across Kansas are sharing $320,000 in federal funds for this project. Buses with model years 2006 and older are eligible for replacement.
The EPA says this ongoing project helps to reduce air pollution connected to asthma and lung damage.
