Dr. Caron Daugherty’s excitement is still at an all-time high after being named as the next president for Flint Hills Technical College.
Dr. Daugherty, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning show, says she is looking forward to integrating into the local community in the months to come as she prepares to assume her new position. She says there were several factors that drew her to the Emporia community including the size of the Emporia community and the college itself.
She says the college’s overall reputation and successes were also key drawing points.
A native of Southwest Missouri, Dr. Daugherty has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Professional writing as well as a Master’s Degree from Missouri State University and acquired her Doctorate by attending the University of Missouri. Dr. Daugherty says her own experiences in education are what led her to pursue a career in the field.
Dr. Daugherty says working with first-generation college students and “providing access to the transformative powers of higher education” are two of her greatest passions as an educator.
Dr. Daugherty says her first order of business as the new president of FHTC will be engaging in introductions and community engagement with both the Emporia and FHTC communities. She says she looks forward to hearing the ideas and suggestions of community members and how she can combine those ideas with her experiences in education to continue pushing the college forward for the future.
Dr. Daugherty will officially assume her role as FTHC President following the retirement of current president Dr. Dean Hollenbeck in June. Hollenbeck has led the college since 2006.
