Former Kansas governor Jeff Colyer officially wants his old job back.
Colyer officially announced his run for a full term as governor Monday, ending months of speculation about the campaign.
Colyer served as Sam Brownback’s lieutenant governor for seven years before Brownback was appointed to a diplomatic position in former president Donald Trump’s administration. Colyer then became governor and narrowly lost the primary to former Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach, who lost to current governor Laura Kelly, a Democrat. He says it’s time for conservative values to return to Kansas.
Colyer received the endorsement of Senator Roger Marshall during the news conference.
Colyer joins current Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt as announced candidates for governor. Kelly has also announced her plans to run for re-election.
