The long-term financial outlook is a positive one for the Emporia Recreation Commission.
That’s according to a recent report from Red Director Tom McEvoy Monday evening. During the commission’s monthly meeting Monday evening, McEvoy presented the quarterly financial update which showed a projected 62 percent decrease in revenues for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year.
However; McEvoy says the ERC is also projecting a 61 percent decrease in expenditures for the fourth quarter, almost essentially offsetting the decrease in revenues. McEvoy attributes this to strong proactive decision-making regarding expenditures at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall, McEvoy says the loss is more favorable than original expectations as he originally anticipated a 75 percent decrease for the third quarter earlier this year.
McEvoy went on to say that he is not anticipating the decrease in revenues to continue come fiscal year 2022. According to McEvoy the outlook for the 2022 budget, at this time, is extremely positive with the rec center projecting a “large increase” in revenues, comparative to fiscal 2021, although an exact figure is not available at this time.
Conversations on the 2022 budget will continue over the next few weeks. McEvoy is anticipating that a draft may be ready for review by May.
The budget will need to be finalized by August.
In other business Monday, the commission also approved the yearly operational agreement for the Jones Aquatic Center with the city of Emporia. Current Plans are to open the Aquatic Center on Monday, May 31.
A door replacement at the Lee Beran Recreation Center also gained approval.
The Emporia Recreation Commission will reconvene for its monthly meeting Monday, May 17 at 5:30 pm inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
