The David Traylor Zoo was the place to be Sunday afternoon as the zoo played host to its first in-person educational event in over a year.
The annual Party for the Planet took place welcoming children and families to take part in a number of activities including sunflower planting, seed bombs, peanut butter bird feeders, Master Gardener talks and recycling discussions. As always, all activities were tied into Earth Day which is this upcoming Thursday.
Zoo Education Coordinator Dehlia Sutton says Party for the Planet is a great way to raise awareness of Earth Day and its importance throughout the world. Sutton also says Party for the Planet allows the zoo an opportunity to show “the next generation” how easy it is for anyone to make a positive impact in the world.
Zoo Director Lisa Keith says once they have inspired a child to make an impact, that inspiration spreads quickly.
Keith tells KVOE News the zoo had almost 300 visitors attend the two-hour-long event Sunday.
