For the second straight year, the Emporia Kiwanis Club used a drive-thru format for its annual pancake feed.
And for the second straight year, the community responded in droves.
A line developed early at the Lyon County Fairgrounds and continued through the five-hour event. Club President Joan Kloppenberg was grateful for the turnout.
Kloppenberg says the club is glad it could hold an event, even with a drive-thru format — but she says club members will be glad when things return to normal and so will a lot of customers who went through the line Saturday.
Fundraising and attendance totals are pending and may not be announced until Tuesday.
The Kiwanis Club set up at the Cloverleaf Diner for the second straight year, instead of using the nearby Anderson Building, as part of COVID-19 precautions. Club members were helped by members of the Olpe High Key Club, Emporia State’s Circle K and several missionaries for the event.
