Flint Hills Technical College has chosen its next leader.
During a special meeting of the FHTC Board Friday, the board officially approved a contract for Dr. Caron Daugherty to serve as the college’s next president. Dr. Daugherty comes to FHTC after having previously served as the one-time Vice Chancellor of Instruction at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Daugherty says she “could not be happier” to be taking on her new role as FHTC President. She says she is looking forward to connecting further with the FHTC community and the Emporia community as a whole.
Presidential Search Committee Chairman Ken Roemer says Dr. Daugherty possessed the “qualities and experience” necessary to help carry the college into the future.
Dr. Daugherty was one of three finalists for the president’s position. The two other finalists included retired president of Lurleen B Wallace Community College, in Andalusia, Alabama, Dr. Herbert Riedel and Dr. Sandra Kiddoo, the chief academic officer at Hazard Community and Technical College in Hazard, Kentucky.
Dr. Daugherty will officially assume her responsibilities in June following the retirement of current President Dean Hollenbeck.
Hollenbeck announced his retirement last fall after leading the college since 2006.
