Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a railroad car and damaged two nearby structures in Hartford on Sunday.
Crews from Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Emporia, along with Lyon County deputies, went to 110 East Plumb after the fire was reported shortly before 6 pm. The railroad car was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn tells KVOE News the fire in the rail car spread to a shed and another nearby storage building, causing moderate fire damage to both buildings.
The railroad car was not being used. No injuries were reported.
Zumbrunn says the apparent cause was a burn barrel nearby that was used Saturday.
