The Fairgrounds Anderson Building was about as full as it could be, given the circumstances, for the ABATE District 12 of Kansas Spring Fling Bike Show on Saturday.
Over 30 motorcycles of all kinds were inside, along with a range of booth vendors, while several food trucks were outside the building. Organizer Deb Fuller says a lot of pre-planning paid off Saturday. She also says the event, while fun for all involved, highlights the club’s community work.
The bike show is the club’s only fundraiser for the year, so whatever is raised is set aside for community help.
The event also helps to herald Motorcycle Awareness Month in May — and it comes as after Kansas lawmakers have passed a bill that will let motorcycle escort groups have more safety. The Patriot Guard Riders, VFW Riders and other groups have worked for some time to have a bill signed that mandates drivers pull over for funeral processions and, in this case, giving motorcycle groups on funeral details the authority to block traffic. The bill is awaiting Governor Laura Kelly’s signature.
District 12 covers Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood and Morris counties.
