Americus was a busy place as the town hosted the first-ever Flint Hills Gravel Ride.
Judging from the turnout, it won’t be the last. Organizer Bobby Thompson was “blown away” by the interest and he’s already thinking ahead to next year.
Riders like Chris Ambrose were grateful for a chance to ride, especially because major events have been shelved for a year due to coronavirus.
Close to 300 riders signed up, thanks to a wait list, and around 250 participated. Riders had the option of a 30-mile or 80-mile ride. Groups of as many as 30 riders launched at a time Saturday.
