Emporia sure was hopping Saturday with Easter activities throughout the day.
The morning began with a special Easter Bunny Drive-Thru event at Jones Park organized by the Flint Hills Optimists. Club member Lisa Keith says the roughly two-hour event was a joy from start to finish.
In total, roughly 800 bags of candy were handed out to local children with more than 100 cars passing through the event.
In downtown Emporia, residents were on the hunt for Easter Eggs throughout the day thanks to a new event put on by Emporia Main Street. Several local businesses had decorated easter egg pages hidden within their establishments all with a unique number on them.
Local residents were tasked with locating the eggs and recording the number on special passports for a chance to win prizes. Main Street Director Casey Woods says the event is just the latest demonstration of the organization’s creativity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents can still turn in their passports Monday morning at Trox Gallery and Gifts for a chance to win a prize.
