The Royals took the lead for good with 3 runs in the 4th inning. They added 3 more in the 7th.
Michael Taylor hit his first home run as a Royal in the 3rd inning.
Jorge Soler hit a home run in the 4th inning.
Whit Merrifield hit a solo home run in the 8th.
Royals manager Mike Matheny called it one of his best season openers.
The Royals and Rangers are off Friday. They play again Saturday afternoon.
