Work continues at Flinthills Mall to get operations back to normal after a lengthy water line leak.
Crews from Plumbing by Spellman have excavated a hole just east of the mall and just south of the former JC Penney storefront. The 8-inch water line in question has been exposed, and Mall Manager Clarence Fry tells KVOE News that crews had all of the piping removed from the hole as of 4 pm Thursday and are optimistic repair work may wrap up by Friday afternoon.
Water seepage had been noted for about 10 days before Spellman started initial repairs Tuesday. The initial work went well until the mall pressurized the lines Wednesday afternoon. That’s when the source of the leak was identified.
The mall is open at this time, although the north half of the building still has water and the south half does not. DaVita has been working with its dialysis patients to make arrangements. Crystal Nails is closed until Monday. B&B Theatres is also closed with no timetable for reopening. Besides those adjustments and the installation of porta-potties at different areas, mall businesses are all open at this time.
Mall manager Clarence Frye is still targeting Friday afternoon for the situation to be resolved.
