Investigations continue into a pair of destructive house fires recently near Emporia.
Miller Fire has returned to 3276 Walnut in Miller every day since fire developed in the house’s attic early Saturday, and fire officials expect to monitor the house for at least the rest of the week for the possibility of more rekindles. A lightning strike early Saturday looks to be the likely cause. Nobody was hurt in the fire, but one person went to Newman Regional Health with unspecified medical issues after Saturday’s initial fire. The house is owned by Charles, Gail and Sarrah Gibbons.
Meanwhile, details have been sparse after fire destroyed Mike and Jackie Gibb’s house east of Strong City on Monday. A cause and origination point have not yet been announced in this case. No injuries have been reported. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Gibbs recover, and people can also drop off funds, clothing and appliances at Reyer’s Country Store in Strong City.
