Yet another payment scam has the attention of Emporia Police.
Officers have fielded multiple calls about scammers saying people have federal warrants that need payments to be cleared. In at least one call, the scammer told a woman to stay on the phone as she went to the bank to withdraw money. Officers have not confirmed whether the woman actually took that step.
Officers say the scammers can be convincing, occasionally using what sounds like a police scanner and local judge names. They can also be demanding, occasionally using foul language during the call.
If you receive any calls where people demand money or store-bought gift cards, hang up and call law enforcement.
