Finalist interviews as part of Flint Hills Technical College’s presidential search continued Tuesday morning with Dr. Herbert Riedel.
Dr. Riedel previously served as President of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, AL, for more than a decade. His tenure as president was most memorable for the development of numerous programs in fields such as manufacturing, health-care and short-term skills training.
As for why he chose to apply for the presidency at FHTC, Dr. Riedel says he was excited to explore a new chapter in his career.
Dr. Riedel has had experience with fostering business relationships both foreign and domestic. He feels those partnerships could greatly benefit the college and its students if he is selected as FHTC’s next president.
While he could not divulge all of the details, Dr. Riedel says one of his first main priorities, if chosen, will be to grow the college’s name outside of the local community.
Dr. Riedel follows a one-time Chancellor of Instruction at Metropolitan Community College Dr. Caron Daugherty as candidates who have interviewed for the presidency. Finalist interviews will conclude next Monday with Dr. Sandra Kiddoo, the chief academic officer at Hazard Community and Technical College in Hazard, Kentucky.
Current FHTC President Dean Hollenbeck announced his plan to retire last fall after leading the college since 2006. The college board has said it plans to name Hollenbeck’s replacement in June.
