Firefighters from several area departments returned to Miller on Sunday after a destructive house fire rekindled.
Firefighters from Allen-Admire, Miller and Reading and Lyon County deputies first went to 3276 Walnut early Saturday after fire developed in the ceiling of the house. They returned shortly before 11 am Sunday after smoke and flames were reported.
One person, an older male, was taken to Newman Regional Health on Saturday for an undisclosed medical issue. That person’s name has not been released. Reading Fire Chief Scott Wilkerson says everybody inside the house at the time of Saturday’s fire escaped unharmed. No injuries have been reported from Sunday’s rekindle.
The house was considered a total loss after Saturday’s fire. Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says arson has been ruled out as a potential cause. A lightning strike has not been ruled out, given numerous cloud-to-ground strikes in and around Miller at the time the fire was reported. What led to the rekindle is unclear, although conditions have been occasionally breezy Sunday. Firefighters on site say the fire could smolder at least through Sunday.
Lyon County records show the house is owned by Charles, Gail and Sarrah Gibbons. Additional details are pending.
