The Kansas Power Pool has taken action to help reduce the impact of February’s historic winter storm on Burlington residents.
According to a news release from the city of Burlington, the KPP Board of Directors recently approved the city’s total bill of $244,362.91 for the month. Additionally, the KPP Board deferred just over $714,000 of the city’s energy cost purchases and has established a 24-month repayment plan.
The city tells residents that there will be a “Feb 2021 storm surcharge of 11 cents per kilowatt-hour purchased. This charge is subject to change and the city says the KPP will reevaluate the timeframe and rate of charges to “replenish the cash reserves it spent on our behalf to cushion the impact to all member cities.”
Due to the KPP’s actions, the city did not have to request a loan from the state to cover its “short-term” liabilities allowing those funds to be put towards communities facing more significant impacts across the state due to the winter storm.
