Just a week after moving into a modified phase three and four of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan, Governor Laura Kelly has announced the state will now move into phase five at the start of next week.
The move to phase five will mean all Kansans 16 and older will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
The announcement comes as the state is anticipating a significant increase in vaccine supply in the coming weeks. In a news release Friday, Governor Kelly says “we must get every dose of vaccine into arms quickly.”
Lyon County Public Health Incident Commander Renee Hively tells KVOE News the county should be able to keep up with what is certain to be an increased demand for vaccinations in the coming weeks.
Hively went on to say there may be some restrictions for upcoming clinics depending on vaccine allocations. She explains that if the county does not receive additional doses of the Pfizer vaccine, they will not be able to offer vaccinations for residents under the age of 18.
With the governor’s announcement Friday, Kansas will now become the eighth state to make the vaccine available to all adults joining Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Utah and West Virginia.
