Construction to repair street damage following a major water line break last week next to Newman Regional Health should be wrapping up by the end of the week.
According to Emporia Public Works Director Dean Grant, the department contracted with Kansas APAC Shears Division to conduct repairs on West 12th Ave. after a major line break last Tuesday due to Public Works crews being stretched thin over the past week. Asphalt was laid Thursday afternoon and if work continues according to plan, the roadway should be opened to through traffic by Friday afternoon.
Public Works was made aware of the break on the 16-inch line on West 12th Avenue outside Newman Regional Health shortly after 10 am last Tuesday morning with the break rupturing the pavement and affecting eastbound traffic.
The break led to water outages at Emporia Place, Emporia Christian School, Kenyon Apartments, the KVOE studios, Newman Medical Equipment and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Water service was restored later that evening.
