At least one incumbent has announced their intentions to seek re-election this year.
Emporia City Commissioner Susan Brinkman filed for re-election Monday.
Brinkman is currently in her first term on the commission after being elected in November of 2019. She tells KVOE News one of the reasons she is running for re-election is to ensure there will be continued stability with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Brinkman says serving on the commission is one of the best ways she knows to give back to the community. If re-elected, Brinkman he says her main focal points, asides from COVID-19 pandemic, will be continued transparency and improving the local economy.
Brinkman is the first City Commission candidate to file for re-election.
There will be at least one new city commissioner next term as Commissioner Jon Geitz announced earlier this month that he will not be seeking re-election after serbing the last seven and a half years on the commission.
Those wishing to run for office this election cycle need to contact the Lyon County Clerk’s office by calling 620-341-3243. Interested individuals may also visit the clerk’s office inside the Lyon County Courthouse at 430 Commercial.
The candidate filing deadline is Jun. 1. The primary election, if needed, will take place in August with the general election set to take place in November.
