The fight against COVID-19 continues statewide, and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly thinks Kansas is on the right track.
Gov. Kelly was Monday’s Talk of Emporia guest and discussed a number of issues affecting the state — including the ongoing pandemic. She says recent numbers indicate Kansas is trending in a positive direction, and closer to getting schools completely re-opened and businesses operating normally.
Gov. Kelly says increased numbers of vaccinations will be key to “getting back to normal”; and while she hasn’t spent much time worrying about where the state ranks nationally, the number of vaccinated Kansans is growing.
Gov. Kelly says the state is closing in on one million vaccinations given and anticipates the number growing quickly as more doses of vaccine are available. Kansas has been receiving between 130 and 140 thousand doses a week but expects a big boost with one hundred thousand Johnson and Johnson doses next Monday (3/29).
Gov. Kelly says they’ve been working closely with the health departments in all 105 counties to get vaccines distributed, and anticipates an increase in available doses adding to where residents can get the vaccine.
Gov. Kelly did address the number of people who have refused to get the vaccine, and hopes as friends and neighbors see more people get the vaccine — and see there aren’t major issues — they will opt to get the vaccine themselves.
We will have more from Gov. Kelly’s Talk of Emporia this week, covering: Recent legislation and upcoming goals; Continuing concerns with the unemployment process and ongoing COVID-assistance; and getting students back in school.
