Funeral arrangements have been announced for Emporia State Athletics Hall of Honor member Steven Henry.
Henry, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, was born Mar. 5 1957. Henry attended Emporia State University in the late 1970s and was a four-year letterman in both track and football.
Henry was drafted by the then St. Louis Cardinals in 1979 and played three years in the NFL. He was inducted into the ESU Athletics Hall of Honor in 1989.
More recently, Henry had served as a color analyst for ESU football on Mix 104.9 FM during the 2019 season and had recently retired from Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station.
Henry was killed Thursday when his pickup truck was struck by a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Devawn Mitchell. Henry is survived by his wife Becky, mother and father Arlen & Laverne Henry, his children Luke, Kyle and Kaitlin and their spouses, brothers Jason and Russ Henry, sister Sue Henry, four grandchildren and twelve nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. A rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7 pm.
