Thoughts of accumulating snowfall for Thursday morning have evaporated, so winter weather advisories posted for the morning hours have been canceled.
The National Weather Service says surface temperatures were too warm overnight for an all-snow event. Partly sunny conditions are now expected for the daylight hours, with highs in the low 50s and gusty north winds as high as 30 mph.
The other main concern from Wednesday — potential flooding — has also subsided. The Marais des Cygnes River above Reading had been in a flood warning until late Thursday night with the expectation of going above flood stage twice before moving towards normal levels. However, it stayed well below flood stage throughout the warning period.
Rainfall totals were impressive Wednesday:
*KVOE studios: 1.8 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 1.5 inches
*3 miles east of Emporia Airport: 2.3 inches
*9th and Lawrence: 1.9 inches
*10th and Weaver: 1.85 inches
*South and Sylvan: 2.2 inches
*Allen: 1.5 inches
*Americus: 1.5 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 1.8 inches
*Reading: 1.5 inches
Temperatures will be in the mid-50s Friday and at or above 60 for the weekend. Rain chances return to the forecast by Sunday night.
