One area town is among better than 50 that will receive state funding to offset potentially crippling energy bills from the brutal cold we experienced last month.
Osage City is receiving $1.65 million for natural gas expenses, according to State Treasurer Lynn Rogers. The funds come through the City Utility Low-Interest Loan Program, which offers cities a chance to apply for emergency funding and then pay the state back over a 10-year period. Any city that has “incurred extraordinary electric and/or natural gas costs” due to last month’s extreme cold can apply.
This current round of funding involves almost $70 million. Applications from here will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. If funds dry up, applicants will be put on a waiting list in the order of when paperwork was received.
