USD 386 Madison Virgil has named an interim superintendent for the coming school year, and it is a familiar face.
The district has selected current USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright to take over the interim responsibilities for the coming school year beginning in August. KVOE has reached out to Argabright for comment on the appointment.
Argabright will be splitting his time between USD 386 and USD 252 as he will continue in his current role in the upcoming academic year.
Argabright’s appointment comes as the district announced current assistant superintendent Steve Jowers as the district’s superintendent in waiting earlier this month. Jowers is currently working to attain his superintendent certification and is expected to take over as the permanent superintendent after the coming year.
The shifts in positions follow the resignation of Stu Moeckel and his wife Summer, a fourth-grade teacher in the district, last month. Stu Moeckel is set to take over as the superintendent for USD 491 Eudora next year.
District Board of Education President Jeff Williams says Argabright’s selection was based on three key factors proximity, experience and familiarity.
In addition to Argabright’s interim role, the district has selected former Burlingame Principal Tammy Baird to take over as the principal at Madison High School. The Board of Education also approved the hire of fourth-grade teacher Kylee Ballard and early learning facility educator Sarah Adams.
