Names have not been released, but a lot of other details have been divulged after a fiery crash involving a dragged car in western Chase County on Friday.
Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker says a car rear-ended a semi on Kansas Highway 150 southwest of Elmdale and was dragged for around three-quarters of a mile before the semi driver pulled over. Dorneker says the semi driver apparently had no idea his trailer had been hit.
The driver of the car got out of the vehicle. Shortly after that, it burst into flames.
The car driver then tried to flee the wreck site but was apprehended. That person was taken by Chase County EMS to Newman Regional Health for treatment of crash-related injuries. A condition report is pending.
Dorneker says witnesses on scene reported the car driving recklessly before the crash.
Chase County Emergency Dispatch reported the wreck site as the junction of US Highway 50 aand K-150.
Besides Chase County deputies and Chase County EMS, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Transportation and Chase County Fire and Rescue all responded to the scene. Chase County deputies are investigating with help from KHP.
